Government webmasters, this is your professional organization

I can’t say enough about the National Association of Government Webmasters (NAGW). It’s the first national organization for local and regional government web professionals. Membership dues are dirt cheap for the value you get in return. Many governments have had to slash their training budgets, but at just $75, many web managers are happy to pay their own dues to be a part of this amazing organization.

Do whatever you can to go to NAGW’s annual conference. Jam packed sessions for the beginner through advanced are designed to appeal to programmers, coders, content managers, project managers, and even designers. The 2010 conference is in St. Louis! NAGW also sponsors the Pinnacle Awards, honoring the best government websites.

I’m on the NAGW Benefits Committee (benefits@nagw.org), a team of members working on developing quality benefits for members. This year we launched monthly webinars – free to members! We’re planning to focus upcoming webinars on everything from social media advice to technical tools. Good stuff.

I think the best part about NAGW is having the opportunity to network and share ideas with other web professionals experiencing many of the same issues. And the extremely active listserv!
